Weekly Update – Mar. 30th – Apr. 3rd, 2020

Happy Friday Everyone:

The staff at St’a7mes are working hard to make sure we connect with each and every one of you to see that you are doing okay.  This can be a very stressful time when we don’t have the routine of coming to school and seeing our friends and teachers.  We want you to know that we are thinking of you and we are here to support you if you need us.  If you are finding this a difficult time, please reach out to myself or one of the teachers and we can chat with you or find you the resources that you need.

The teachers are beyond excited to see all of the students online and working on the amazing projects they are putting together.  This is definitely not the scenario we envisioned after Spring Break but we will do our utmost to make sure the students continue learning and staying engaged in their classes.  If you have any questions on what the expectations are please don’t hesitate to reach out to your teachers by phone or email.  We may not have all the answers right away but we will try to answer them to the best of our ability.

During this time it is also important for you and your families to stay healthy and safe.  Please abide by the Provincial Health Officer’s statements about washing your hands, social distancing and self-isolation.  It’s so important that we all do our part in preventing the spread of this virus and protecting those that are more vulnerable and susceptible to Covid 19.  The school will be open but the front door will remain locked.  If you need something desperately please email or call and we will try to get it to you.  If it is not urgent and can wait we would prefer to do that so we don’t increase people’s risk of contraction.

We have also been busy getting technology out to those families who are in real need.  The process has started with the High School and Middle School first and if possible will move to the younger grades.  If you require technology and still have not contacted the school please let us know so we can see what we can do to help.

The K-6 teachers have begun to implement blogs for the students to access and they will be in touch with you to help your children do the activities.  It is important to engage in activities with your children and build relationships that emphasis how learning can be fun and exciting.  If you have a mobile phone or a tablet you will be able to access the learning easily.  We need parents to understand that we are here to support you with activities and will guide you when presenting the instruction to your children.  You are not alone!!

The Middle and High School teachers have also been busy updating their Google Classrooms and introducing projects that encompass all the core areas of learning as well as fun projects that the teachers are passionate about teaching.  The students will be involved in Google Chats and Video Meetings to stay connected with their friends as well as their teachers.

This time is going to require everyone in the community to work together and be patient.  We have never experienced this type of situation in the world and we must be flexible in order to make this work.  I know that our entire school community will come together to help and support all of us.  Again if you need anything please reach out to us.  Take care of yourself and your family and we will see you soon.
