Weekly “E-Blast” – Sept 13, 2019

Dear Parents & Guardians,

The 2nd week of the school year is in the books! It was great to have all the students (including our new Kindies) for the whole week and to see so much amazing learning and team building!

Please see below from some important information about our school and upcoming events:

Terry Fox Assembly – Due to variable weather conditions and many students coming to school unprepared for the actual run, we have postponed to Terry Fox Run to Friday Sept 27 at 11am.

However, we still proceeded with a Terry Fox Assembly today and spoke to the kids about how Terry Fox “persevered” through the pain and suffering when running his Marathon Hope”.

We are also asking students to bring a “Tooney for Terry” ($2.00) over the next 2 weeks to help support cancer research. We will have a jar in the main office for anyone wanting to donate a “Tooney for Terry”.

Brown Bag Lunch Pickup – We are still looking for volunteers to pick up lunches from Helping Hands on Tuesday or Thursday each week. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Gayle in the school office.

Wednesday “Jam Sessions” – starting next week, we will be having weekly “jam sessions” in the gymnasium on Wednesdays at lunch (12:00-12:45pm) with one of our parent volunteers and local musician, Reuben DeGroot. Please let your child know to bring their instruments if they are interested to join in (but no amplified instruments at this time).

In The Know Session – will be held on Monday, September 23 from 6:00 – 8:00 at the Squamish Public Library.  Please find more information attached.

As mentioned in my last weekly “e-blast”, we would like to share some general universal precautions each week to ensure that everyone in our school community feels safe at all times.

This week, we would like to discuss the topic of  “Drugs Found on School Grounds”. Some of you may know that over the last week there has been drug paraphernalia found at Les Aiglon School and at Squamish Elementary (none have been found at our school). On both occasions, these items were discovered by an adult, and the RCMP was notified. As a precautionary measure, the RCMP will be upping their patrols around all schools.

Although we have NOT found items at our school, I have attached a great resources for talking to your child about needles. Our teachers will also be discussing this with their classes about what to do if they find needles, drugs etc. and how to answer some of the questions children may have. It is not a perfect resources but it is a jump off point.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions.
