Weekly Update for June 3 – 14, 2019

It is getting to be a very busy time of  year! Please find below important dates to keep in mind for the next few weeks:

JUNE 3-7th, 2019 

PIT COOK will be held at Alice Lake on Tuesday, June 4th from 9:15 – 2:45pm for all Cultural Journeys students. Lunch will be provided. Please ensure that your child wears weather appropriate clothing.

SWIMMING LESSONS for Ms. Jenna and Ms. Lindsey’s classes on Wednesday, June 5th  from 10am to 12noon. Please note that this is the last swimming lesson.

SQUAMISH LILLOOET CULTURAL CENTRE field trip for Ms Lindsey and Ms. Jenna’s classes on Thursday, June 6th from 9:15 – 2:45pm.

OUTDOOR CLUB OVERNIGHT TRIP TO SINGING PASS is on Thursday, June 6th  to Friday, June 7th.

SWIMMING LESSONS for Ms. Lowe’s class on Friday, June 7th from 9:00am to 11:00am. Please note that this is the last swimming lesson.

 

JUNE 10 – 14th, 2019 

SPORTS DAY  is on Wednesday, June 12th from 9:00 – 3:00pm for all students. Teams will be sent out next week. Please join us if you are able.

LEX CAMPING TRIP – MANDATORY PARENT INFORMATION SESSION will be held in the Learning Expeditions classroom on Wednesday, June 12th at 7:00pm.

CULTUS LAKE FIELD TRIP – Ms. Lowe’s class will be spending the day at the waterslides on Thursday, June 13th. The bus will be leaving at 8:30am and will return at 6:00pm. Please ensure that you arrange transportation to and from school for your child.

MANDATORY COMMENCEMENT REHEARSAL is on Thursday, June 13 at 4:00pm at Brennan Park.

PROM BAGGAGE CHECK – will be at Brennan Park on Thursday, June 13, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm immediately following the commencement rehearsal. This check is for everything you will need during the prom event. You will only be allowed your phone (no bags/purses etc.) when going through the security check to get onto the buses to be driven to the event. We will secure the bags and bring them to the prom venue for your use. As bags are checked, they will be tagged with your name so you can access them easily during prom. Example of items that will be accepted in the baggage check include change of clothes, comfortable footwear, make-up. Any medications must be checked in on Thursday in a prescription-labelled container. No more than one dose of the medication will be permitted. 

We will have toiletries available in both washrooms for the Grads use during the event (ex. hairspray, deodorant, feminine products, bobby pins, band-aids, stain remover etc). GRAD COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY is on June 14th at 7:00pm at Brennan Park Recreation Centre.

PROM 2019 is on Saturday June 15th.  The timeline is as follows:

3:00 – 5:00pm  – Time to Shine at HSS in the MPR. Parents are encouraged to attend to take pictures and see all of the grads dressed up. Snacks will be served by the prom committee.

5:00 – 5:30pm – Security check and travel by bus to West Coast Railway Heritage Park (mandatory)

5:30 – 6:00pm – Mocktails and Appetizers 

6:30 – 8:30pm Dinner and Entertainment

8:30 11:30pm Dancing, Games and Late night snacks

11:30 – 12:am Door prizes and giveaways

12:00 – 12:30am Parent/Guardian pickup

 

SCHOOL INFORMATION

STAWAMUS COMMUNITY FARM: We would like to invite you to take part in an Energy Exchange CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) that will take place over the summer and fall months of this year.

Our Learning Expeditions students have been working hard to rebuild the farm and prepare it for a successful and prosperous growing season.

The initial intent for the Stawamus Community Farm was to provide a place and space for Stawamus students and families to engage directly with the land that sustains us. With this in mind, we are opening up the farm for families to get involved throughout the summer and fall.

What would the Energy Exchange CSA look like?

Every two weeks, all families involved would meet at the farm for 1-2 hours. Each Family would be in charge of maintaining 1-2 beds (weeding, harvesting, washing, seeding etc.). In exchange for their time and effort spent on the farm, each family would take home a share of the produce once the time for harvest comes.

How many families can be involved?

Since this is our first year offering this program, we have space for 5 families to start. This will be on a first come first serve basis. We are hoping to expand next year in order to be able to accommodate additional families. If you are interested in participating, please contact Hilary Pink at hcpink@hotmail.com
