Dear everyone in our Stawamus community,
The last week of school before Winter Break has arrived! All of us here at Cultural Journeys and Learning Expeditions would like to wish the all our students, families, and staff a very safe and happy holidays. We look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday January 7, 2018.
Please find below important dates to keep in mind for the next few weeks:
DECEMBER 17 – 21
WINTER GIFT SHOPPING EXPERIENCE will be once again hosted by our PAC at Lunch and for 30 minutes after school, in the Library from Monday, December 17th – 19th. We are now accepting donations of lightly used or new: accessories (jewellery, scarves, sun glasses) toys, books, and small household items (no clothing or shoes please). We will sell these items to the students for $1 per item and gift wrapping will be available. This will give students a chance to shop for Christmas gifts for their family and friends. ALICE LAKE LONG HOUSE VISIT for Ms. Lowe’s class will take place on Tuesday, December 18th from 9:30 – 2:45pm. Please ensure your child wears weather appropriate clothing.
GINGERBREAD MAN DECORATING is on Wednesday, December 19th from 1:15pm – 3:00pm in the Gym for all students. Please send your child with a small bag of candy to decorate their gingerbread man. Families are welcome to join in the festivities.
SPIRIT DAY – is taking place on Friday, December 21st. Students are encouraged to wear green, red and white or festive hats.
WINTER BREAK – The last day of school before winter break is on Friday, December 21st. The school will be closed for the winter break from December 22 – January 6th. School will reopen on Monday, January 7th. We hope everyone has a wonderful holiday!
RCMP YOUTH ENGAGEMENT WEEK – Are you interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement? We can help! The RCMP is pleased to offer, at its expense, the opportunity to experience a week at its training academy, also known as Depot. A select group of Grade 12 students from across Canada will learn first-hand what it’s like to be a cadet in training and learn about the work of an RCMP officer. Activities will include visits to police training classes, drill class, police driver’s training, firearm simulator, tours of Depot and the RCMP Heritage Centre and much more. Application packages are available in the counselling office. Application deadline: January 31, 2019.

IN THE KNOW SESSION – will be hosted at the Squamish Public Library on Monday, December 17th from 6:00 – 8:00pm. Please find additional information on the attached poster.
FREE CODING WORKSHOP – The Squamish Public Library is hosting a coding workshop for students in gr. 3 – 6 on December 18th. Please find additional information on the poster attached.
DON ROSS MIDDLE SCHOOL OPEN HOUSE will be taking place on Wednesday, January 16th (from 5:30-7:30). This open house is being planned and coordinated by the DRM Action Team for Partnerships, with the goal of increasing community engagement in our school. Community partners will be at the school discussing available services. Many DRM staff, and students, will also be available to showcase learning spaces, student work and a variety of DRM clubs/organizations. There will also be a presentation of learning, from 6:30-7:30, for the DRM school playground project. We would like to invite any interested community member to attend this event, including our incoming students and families.
