Weekly Update – Nov 19-23, 2018

Please find below important dates to keep in mind for the next few weeks:

NOVEMBER 19-23

ALICE LAKE FIELD TRIP for Ms. Lowe’s class, on Tuesday, November 20th from 9:30am – 2:30pm. Please ensure your child is dressed in weather appropriate clothing.

EARLY DISMISSAL/STUDENT LED CONFERENCESstudents will be dismissed early at 2:00pm on Wednesday, November 21st to facilitate Student Led Conferences, that will take place from 3:00 – 6:00pm. I have attached a letter from our staff with additional information about the conferences. If you would like to book a student led conference, please contact Gayle in the school office at 604-892-5904 or a glaurie@sd48.bc.ca.

Student Led Conferences

WE DAY is on Thursday, November 22ndOur school is assigned to Bus #5. This will be an Avispa Chartered bus, not an SD48 bus. Please find the schedule below for specific times:

Bus # 5 – Carrying Valleycliffe and Stawamus School

7:00am – Departs HSS

8:30am – Arrives Rogers Arena

2:30pm – Departs Rogers Arena to return home

4:00pm – Estimated return time to HSS

MOVIE NIGHT – has been rescheduled to Friday, November 23rd. Doors open at 4:00pm and Ice Age, the movie, starts at 4:30pm. This movie night is a fundraiser put on by the Learning Expeditions Students to help pay for our new mural in the school’s entrance hallway. Entrance to the movie is free but students will be selling baked goods for $2.00 and popcorn for $1.00 to raise money. There will also be a silent auction, to sell prints donated by the mural’s artist Raz as well as prints created by our students.

NOVEMBER 26 – DECEMBER 1

FAMILY GAMES NIGHT Our PAC is hosting the second Family Games Night on Friday, November 30th from 6:00 – 8:00pm. We hope you can join us for some family fun! Additional information will be sent home later in the week.

GRAD INFORMATION

DRY GRAD 2019 FORMS were sent home last Friday, or you can access them at the following links. Please note that the initial payment of $100 CASH is due on November 30th, and can be dropped off at HSS or at the Stawamus School office.

NEW STUDENT TRANSCRIPTS SERVICE (STS):

Students interested in signing up for Student Transcripts Service can now view three quick videos on signing up for STS and options for sending their transcripts. Click on the link below to view the videos:

COMMUNITY INFORMATION

COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS CARE – as in past years, we will be participating in the Community Christmas Care Program. From November 30th – December 14th, we will be collecting non-perishable food items or new toys, in the front entrance of the school. Please donate if you are able.

 

IN THE KNOW SESSION – FOUR STEPS CARE MODEL TO CONFLICT MANAGEMENT– This webinar will provide families who parent kids with mental health challenges with effective strategies for managing ongoing and severe caregiver/child conflict. This session takes place on Monday, November 26, 2018  from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. Please find additional information as well as who to RSVP on the attached poster.
