Orange Shirt Day & Weekly Update for Sept 24-28

Good Afternoon,

Please see below important dates to keep in mind for the next few weeks:


ORANGE SHIRT DAY ASSEMBLY is on Wednesday, September 26th at 11:00am. Families are encouraged to join the assembly. Orange shirts are not required and will still be worn on Friday, which is the official Orange Shirt Day. orange.jpg

EARLY DISMISSAL COLLABORATION DAYStudents will be dismissed early at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, September 26th. Bussing will be provided with the exception of Britannia Beach.

TERRY FOX RUN will take place on Thursday, September 27th at 11:00am. There will be a short assembly at 11:00am, followed by the run. Families are welcome to join us and we are looking for a few volunteers to assist with marshalling the run. If you would like to volunteer, please let the office know ahead of time and meet at the school office at 10:45am on Sept 27th. Pledge forms were sent home last week.

ORANGE SHIRT DAY is on Friday, September 28th. Wearing an orange shirt and promoting the slogan, Every Child Matters, is an affirmation of our commitment to raise awareness of the residential school experience and to ensure that every child matters as we focus on our hope for a better future in which children are empowered to help each other.


GRADE 6 IMMUNIZATIONS will take place on Wednesday, October 3 at 9:30am.

WHISTLER SISTERS IN SPRIT VIGILLearning Expeditions Social Justice Students attending on October 4th from 9:30 am to 2:30pm.


FOUNDATION SKILLS ASSESSMENTS – Grade 4 and 7 students will be writing the FSA (Foundation Skills Assessments) this fall. Please find attached a letter with additional information.

Douglas College Admissions:  The application window for Fall 2019 admissions opens on October 1 at 8:30 am. This is important since many of their programs are first-qualified, first-admitted. Popular programs such as Academic Foundations for Potential Nursing Applicants fill up quickly – typically by 4:00 pm the day applications open. Applying early is crucial. Don’t miss out.

AES Engineering is offering a $500 scholarship to motivated students to help further their education. You are not required to be taking Engineering courses to be eligible. Please visit the AES Engineering website at for application information. Application deadline is October 6, 2018.

The Loran Scholars Foundation is offering up to 138 awards across Canada to support students attending public Canadian universities. Applicants must be in their final year of full-time studies in high school, have a minimum GPA of 85% and be a Canadian citizen or hold permanent resident status. For more information and to apply, please visit the Loran Scholars Foundation website at Application deadline is October 17, 2018.

The Horatio Algers Association of Canada is pleased to offer 170 scholarships of up to $10,000 across Canada. Applicants must demonstrate financial need, be involved in extra-curricular and community activities, maintain a minimum GPA of 65% and be Canadian citizens residing in Canada.
